Women in the Park Nature Walk

Women walking in the park

This past Saturday, broadcaster Kyndra de St. Aubin joined women for the Women’s Walk with the DNR at Fort Snelling Regional Park. The group went on a nature hike in the 19° weather, walking along the Minnesota River and doing the “Minnesota shuffle” so as not to slip on the ice along the path.

“I do them about once every other month. And then every month, I do something with my women’s program,” explained Lead Interpretive Naturalist Krista Jensen. “If it’s not a hike, it’ll be a skill-building activity, reaffirming all these wonderful things we can do in state parks, and just in general outside. Fishing, snowshoeing, knot-tying. Stuff that hopefully we can use in our free time.”

The women learned fascinating facts about the state of Minnesota — including the fact that the state gets its name from the Dakota name for the river ("Mnisota Makoce" — "land where the waters reflect the sky") and not the other way around — and bundled up with their new Minnesota United scarves.
