Minnesota United announced today the club has signed defender Oniel Fisher to a one year contract, plus a club option.Â
âWeâre pleased to bring [Oniel] Fisher into the fold,â said MNUFC Head Coach Adrian Heath. âHeâs got plenty of MLS experience and the fact that he can play both leftback and rightback will be huge for us during the year, especially on the left side where weâre missing some depth. If we want to be successful and have the season we want, weâre going to need all of our players and I think heâs a good pick up for us. Heâs athletic, a good guy. As an MLS veteran, he knows whatâs coming, knows the competition of the league, the travel and how hot itâs going to be in Houston in the middle of May. Weâre pleased weâve got him and we think heâs going to contribute.â
Fisher joins Minnesota after one season with the LA Galaxy. The veteran defender has seven years of MLS experience, playing with D.C. United and the Seattle Sounders, totaling 78 game appearances. He was selected 40th in the second round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft by the Sounders and split his time between the first and second team in his three seasons in Seattle. He was traded to D.C. ahead of the 2018 season and score his first professional goal in a 4-1 victory over Portland Timbers that season. Internationally, Fisher has 20 caps with the Jamaica National Team, including appearances in the 2020 FIFA World Cup Qualifications. He scores his first international goal in October of 2021 in a 2-0 win over Honduras.Â
