MNUFC2 Host Houston to Kick Off Homestand

While the first team travels to Houston to play a team from Mexico City, the Twos are staying in Minnesota to host a team that actually comes from Houston. There’s no real significance to this glorious coincidence, but it warranted a callout, if nothing else. Long story short, you can catch two Minnesota United games this Saturday, and they have the thinnest of threads connecting them. How fun!

Your Twos return to Blaine after a tough road stretch that saw them earn just a single point from their last three games. Two of those matches were against teams at or near the very top of the Western Conference, St. Louis CITY2 and The Town FC, making for an especially tough test. The return to the National Sports Center will be a welcome change of pace, as the Twos have won each of their last two home matches by a 2-1 scoreline. They’ll be hoping to build some momentum in their upcoming homestand, with three consecutive matches at the NSC Stadium coming up next.

That homestand begins with another match against Houston Dynamo 2, whom the Loons have already dispatched twice this season, both home and away. The visitors have lost four of their last five, including all three of their away games in that span. Both sides will be hoping to turn a positive corner this weekend, but history seems to favor the Black and Blue in this one.

With these clubs sitting right next to each other in the Western Conference standings in ninth (Houston) and tenth (Minnesota), Saturday’s showdown presents an opportunity to set the table for a strong push up the table. A win would see the Loons leapfrog the visitors, bringing them up to 27 points on the season and fueling their push for playoff soccer in 2025.

The first team is out of town, meaning that reinforcements won’t be available unless they stayed behind. Expect to see MNUFC2 regulars filling the teamsheet this weekend, with plenty of opportunities for younger players to step up and make a mark as the Twos look to complete the season sweep over Houston. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT at the National Sports Center Stadium, with streaming available on MLSNEXTpro.com.
