For Parents of Prospective Players

Playing for an MLS NEXT Academy team is a big commitment — not only for the athletes, but their families as well. While it’s an incredible opportunity, it’s also physically demanding, time-consuming, and a notable shift from the typical teenager’s schedule. With training times during regular school hours, nationwide travel, and an emphasis on athletic development, members of the Academy are fully immersed in the sport.

For parents of prospective Academy players, this page provides some high-level information about what you might expect as a parent of an MNUFC Academy player, as well as how our program prioritizes the full, well-rounded development of our athletes — in and beyond the sport of soccer.

Education

Education

Training takes place during normal school hours. While this alters the typical school experience for our athletes, we have a partnership with local schools to ensure that they’re still receiving a good education alongside their athletic development.

Costs

Costs

Participating in the MNUFC Academy is 100% free for the athletes. As long as they can find transportation to get themselves to and from training, home games, and the airport as needed, the rest is up to the club.

Homestay

Homestay

The club offers out-of-market players an equal chance to join, with vetted local families willing to host athletes during their time in the Academy. Visit this page for more information on MNUFC’s Homestay program.
